Modern dimming network technology and its application

In recent years, with the popularization and rapid development of computer network technology, the application and development of network technology in the domestic video and visual arts industry has become an irreversible trend. In the technical documents of system designers, contractors, and bidding companies, “network” has become a “new darling”. It has been gradually recognized that networking brings substantial value-added to the improvement of equipment system reliability and resource sharing.

About two years ago, network technology began to be applied in the field of domestic dimming. Beijing Great Hall of the People, CCTV, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Hebei Art Center and other important venues for dimming equipment systems, the first choice of network dimming system. Recently, major domestic performances, such as the opening ceremony of the Ninth National Games and the 2002 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, also selected the dimming network system.

The development of network dimming technology stems from the need for data storage and exchange between main and standby dimming stations in large-scale live performances. Figure 1 shows the traditional dual-computer master-slave dimming station backup system.

One master, one backup and two dimming stations can work independently or at the same time. The DMX signals output by the two dimming stations are combined by the signal superimposer, and the principle of high brightness is preferred. When the main console fails, the backup station starts working immediately. If the main and standby stations are of the same model, the lighting engineer can copy the programmed program on the main station to the backup station after the work is completed. If the main station and the standby station are not the same model, the two dimming stations cannot directly exchange data, and modify the lighting effect on the main console, and also modify it once on the backup station. Therefore, different types of backup stations are often not used in use, but become the burden of the lighting division.

Figure 2 is a block diagram of a network dimming system, which is a typical LAN system. Data between devices can be transmitted bidirectionally over the network cable. Each dimming station in the system can be operated independently, or any one of the main control equipment, the auxiliary control equipment and the remote control equipment can be set. In the system, multiple people can simultaneously control one show or control different performances. The data exchange between the dimming stations can be quickly synchronized, and the network file server stores various lighting schemes and materials, such as a computer light information library, to facilitate remote query, call or download within the local area network. Various technical data of the dimmer at the performance site, such as important parameters such as temperature, current and voltage of each circuit, can be easily obtained through the dimming station, local and remote monitors. If a fault such as a short circuit or an open circuit occurs, an alarm is issued on the dimming station and the monitor. Through the multimedia contacts, the live audio and video signals are also easily transferred inside and outside the LAN. Through network DMX or other signal decoders, traditional non-network products such as computer lights can be easily incorporated into the system.

Compared with the traditional dual-computer master and standby dimming station backup system, the dimming network system has a qualitative improvement in the synchronous transmission function. It is no longer just a simple data backup, but has a relatively high "intelligence". In addition to transmitting the data of the console to the standby station, it also has an imitation function. When the system is in the active/standby tracking mode, the commands input on the console or the standby station also respond on the console of the backup station. For example, on the main console, the brightness of the optical path 1 is set to 80%, and the brightness of the standby optical path 1 is also automatically set to 80%. On the standby station, the field 1 is run, and the main console is automatically run to the field 1, which is greatly Reduce the workload of the lighting engineer.

In the dimming network, when one dimming station fails, the other immediately turns into the follow-up output. If the main console runs to the field 9, the standby station also runs to the field 9, and takes over control, becoming the master. AA. Achieve seamless switching between the main and standby stations. The whole process is completed in an instant, and there is no danger. This superior function, the traditional dual-computer master-slave dimming station backup system is simply incomparable.

Network dimming system products have entered the market since five years ago and have gradually developed into more mature products. Some famous international dimming equipment manufacturers, such as STRAND (SN100) and ETC (ETCNET), have advanced network dimming system products.

It is worth mentioning that the domestic brand HDL also follows the world trend to launch the Chinese Hedong dimming network system HDLNET. In recent important engineering projects and major performances in China, HDLNET has been selected many times, making the industry look at domestic dimming network products. Figure 3 and Figure 4 show the HDLNET dimming network system consisting of 4 Dongfanglong HDL-2008 network dimming stations used in the main venue of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala 1 and the Shenzhen World Window.

Standardization is a noteworthy issue in the development of dimming network system technology. In terms of communication layer standards, manufacturers in various countries have basically moved closer to the TCP/IP protocol. In terms of the application layer, due to various factors, there is still no uniform agreement and standard between manufacturers in various countries. That is to say, in addition to the DMX signal, devices from different manufacturers cannot communicate with each other. This situation hinders the further development of network dimming system technology. Dimming manufacturers, design departments and users all over the world have begun to realize the seriousness of this problem, but no organization has yet to draft coordination and standards.

In the next few years, China's entry into the customs, the Beijing Olympic Games and relevant state departments will increase investment in cultural facilities and other important factors, which will make China's film and television culture market more active. Network dimming system technology will have a wide range of popular applications in China. As a domestic professional lighting worker, we call on the manufacturers, users, distributors and relevant state departments of dimming equipment to make corresponding measures as soon as possible, so that network technology can be developed rapidly and well-developed in the field of dimming in China!
