Supertex introduces the HV9980, a new three-channel high-voltage LED driver IC. Suitable for LCD and DLP TV applications.
The HV9980 features peak current mode control with three channels including an LED current adjustment switch that achieves 95% efficiency in DLP TV applications. Each channel integrates a 160 volt, 25 ohm MOSFET with independent pulse width adjustment and linear dimming input. The HV9980 peak current mode controls fast, and the instantaneous response allows dimming for LED backlight applications. The HV9980 IC synchronizes with the system clock to eliminate the beat frequency. All three channels have short-circuit and over-temperature protection.
According to Ahmed Masood, vice president of marketing at Supertex, the HV9980's ease of use, high efficiency and high integration enable low-cost LED driver solutions using white or trichromatic LED arrays. LCD and DLP TVs with LED backlighting can achieve better image quality and lower power consumption than traditional CCFL backlights.
The HV9980 is available in a 24-wire SOW package (HV9980WG-G). Parts meet green and RoHS requirements. Samples are available now. The shipping period is 4-6 weeks. When the quantity reaches 1000 pieces, the price is $1.71 each.
