Toshiba denied that the sale of computer business has not reached cooperation with any company

[Global Network Technology Reporter Chen Jian] Recently, Toshiba has been denied by Toshiba to sell its computer business to save itself.

Recently, some media said that Toshiba Corporation of Japan is negotiating with Asustek and intends to sell its personal computer (PC) business to Taiwan Asustek Computer Co., Ltd. The report stated that Lenovo Group also expressed interest in Toshiba’s business.

In response, Toshiba officially released its response to the “Report on Toshiba’s computer business” and responded that it was reported by Japan’s Kyodo News Agency on November 16 and the Japan Economic News and Tokyo News published on November 17. Taiwan’s ASUS Corporation reached an agreement to sell Toshiba’s computer business. However, the above report by the Japanese media is not true. Toshiba has no decision on selling its Toshiba computer business and has not reached any cooperation with any company.

The reason why the outside world believes that Toshiba sells computers is because of Toshiba's recent difficulties. Toshiba is eager to raise funds to repay huge debts from the bankruptcy of US nuclear company Westinghouse. Toshiba has announced that it will sell its television business to Hisense Group in China. And its chip business is also actively engaged with the Bain Capital led consortium, is expected to reach a sale agreement by March next year. And for many years, Westinghouse Electric has accepted bids from private equity firms Blackstone Group and Apollo Global Management.

All actions taken by Toshiba are to avoid delisting from the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In recent years, Chinese manufacturers are also actively acquiring Japanese computer makers. In 2016, NEC announced that it will sell Lenovo to most of its stock of PC joint ventures. In November of this year, Lenovo also announced that it will take over Fujitsu’s computer business, an old Japanese company.
