Microchip Technology Inc., the world's leading provider of integrated patented microcontrollers, analog devices and flash memory solutions, announced that it will continue to produce legacy 8051/80C51 MCUs for most of the recent NXP ( NXP) MCUs listed in the "Discontinued" (Eol) announcement provide pin-to-pin compatible alternatives. This includes direct replacements for the NXP discontinued P89LV51RB2/C2/D2 and P89V51RB2/C2/D2 80C51 8-bit microcontroller families. Microchip acquired the traditional 80C51 MCU business when it acquired Silicon Storage Technology, Inc. (SST) in April 2010 and has been supporting it. Randy Drwinga, vice president of Microchip, said: "Microchip has long supported customers with a long lifecycle product line. We also have strong advantages in the industrial, automotive and medical markets, and we know that long lifecycle products support these customers. It is important. We welcome any customers who currently use the NXP 80C51 MCU and do not wish to redesign their final products, using our 100% compatible 80C51 portfolio; and, when appropriate, we also provide them with a migration to Microchip's rich 8 Choice of bit, 16-bit and 32-bit PIC? microcontroller portfolios."
