In the high-temperature semiconductor solutions leader CISSOID and INSTRUMENTEL jointly announced the establishment of a global partnership to provide MERLIN IC, the world's first high-temperature, battery-less radio frequency identification telemetry chip.

The MERLIN IC is a highly versatile inductively coupled telemetry transponder that supports a variety of sensors through a built-in 10-bit AD converter. The MERLIN chip integrates a programmable 48-bit identification code and a set of general-purpose I/Os that can be monitored and remotely controlled. Data transfer rate up to 200kbps. All MERLIN functions do not require any power because it is powered from the 13.56MHz electromagnetic field generated by the remote reader.

The chip design is designed to operate over a temperature range from -55°C to +225°C, which makes the sensor ideal for use in non-powered and extreme environments.

MERLIN is developed together with INSTRUMENTEL's system-level technology for wireless telemetry and at the same time makes full use of CISSOID's best semiconductor capabilities for extreme temperatures and harsh environments. In the brand XT01, INSTRUMENTEL has demonstrated the capabilities of MERLIN for many industrial applications including explosive metrology and nuclear waste monitoring.

MERLIN can now be used in aerospace, aerospace, industrial, medical and automotive applications. INSTRUMENTEL sells demonstration kits, readers, and software interfaces combined with MERLIN tags, which can provide expert design services and integrated solutions incorporating MERLIN chips. CISSOID will sell independent MERLIN chips directly to end users in large quantities.
