Now, GDC (Game Developers Conference) has announced the "State of The Game Industry Survey 2017", which includes the developer's views on the VR game industry.
This is already the fifth annual industry status survey released by GDC. This report includes data from more than 4,500 game developers. For VR and AR platforms, GDC's report shows that HTC Vive has become the developer's favorite head brand.
Although the VR industry has achieved significant growth in the past few years, it is still an emerging area of ​​the game market, with 61% of the developers (respondents) currently have not developed VR games. In addition, currently 24% of users are using the HTC Vive head game to develop games; 23% of users are supporting Oculus Rift; 13% are using Sony's PlayStation VR.
As for the future, when asked about which VR/AR platform is expected to be released on the game (after the current project is completed), 40% of the developers (people) indicated that they plan to support HTC Vive; 37% chose Oculus Rift; and 26% People expressed their desire to access PlayStation VR.
The VR industry is currently under intense discussion around exclusive games. For developers (persons) who are currently involved in VR, 39% said their next project will not be exclusive games, while 11% of respondents stated that they are developing exclusive games. For developers who develop exclusive games, 33% said they are developing exclusive games for HTC Vive, 24% for Oculus Rift and 15% for PlayStation VR.
However, in terms of VR/AR headline interest, developers generally choose HTC Vive. 45% said they were most interested in HTC Vive, 30% chose Oculus Rift, and only 29% supported PlayStation VR.
