Large inventory of industrial new materials

1. Scientists Develop Explosion-Proof, Fire-Resistant Water-Based Lithium Batteries

Large inventory of industrial new materials

Researchers from the University of Maryland have made a breakthrough in battery technology by creating a water-based lithium-ion battery that is both explosion-proof and fire-resistant. This innovation not only meets the voltage requirements for consumer electronics like laptops but also significantly enhances safety. The use of a water-based electrolyte eliminates the risk of combustion, making it a promising alternative to traditional lithium batteries.

2. South Korea Develops Self-Powered Nanowires

Large inventory of industrial new materials

A team at Hanyang University has developed nanowires capable of generating electricity when stretched or twisted. These nanowires are created by winding carbon nanotubes into a spiral shape. When placed in an electrolyte, they generate energy through mechanical movement. According to the study, just 19.2 milligrams of these nanowires can power a 2.3V green LED, and one kilogram can produce up to 250 watts of electricity—showing great potential for energy harvesting applications.

3. World’s First 2500mm Polarizer Production Line to be Established in Kunshan

Qimei Materials recently announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Nitto Denko Co., Ltd. to develop the world's first 2,500mm-wide polarizer production line. The project is set to begin trial production in the first quarter of 2019. With a five-year technical license contract, this development marks a major step forward in the production of high-quality polarizers used in display technologies, offering improved efficiency and performance.

4. Ultra-Flexible, Highly Sensitive Electronic Skin

Scientists have developed a flexible electronic skin by mixing graphite nanosheets with elastic polymers and using a coating technique to form a composite film. After several packaging steps, the final product is only 40 micrometers thick. This material exhibits exceptional sensitivity and flexibility, allowing it to respond effectively to various types of stress and strain. Its unique properties make it ideal for wearable electronics and medical monitoring devices, opening up new possibilities for smart technology integration in daily life.
