In the domestic small SUV market, Baojun has made a strong move with the launch of the Baojun 510, effectively competing with Haval. Meanwhile, other popular domestic small SUVs like the Haval H2, JAC S3, and MG ZS continue to attract a large consumer base. As these models gain more popularity, many joint-venture automakers are now eyeing the segment, eager to capture a share of this growing market. Honda, once a dominant force in the Japanese automotive industry, has struggled to maintain its edge in the Chinese SUV market. However, it’s reportedly preparing to enter the small SUV space with a new model that is expected to hit the market by the end of the year. The vehicle is anticipated to start at just 80,000 yuan, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.
The Honda WR-V is a compact SUV developed under the Honda brand, built on the same platform as the Honda Fit. Its design echoes the Fit's style, with bold and irregularly shaped headlights that give it a distinctive front appearance. The front grille features sharp lines and a black hollow design, while a chrome strip runs across the center, connecting the Honda emblem. The lower bumper is finished in silver, adding a sporty touch to the overall look.
Inside, the WR-V retains much of the Fit’s layout but introduces subtle upgrades. The cabin is primarily black, with a central console that incorporates Jazz-inspired design elements. The steering wheel is stylish and modern, and the addition of silver chrome accents enhances the car’s luxury feel. In terms of features, the WR-V comes equipped with essential technologies such as ESP, one-touch start, a panoramic sunroof, and brake assist, making it well-equipped for daily use.
Under the hood, the WR-V is powered by a 1.5L Earth Dreams engine that delivers 120 horsepower. It can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency is impressive, with a consumption rate of only 4 liters per 100 kilometers, translating to less than 3 cents per kilometer. This makes it not only fuel-efficient but also more powerful than some of its competitors, including the Haval H6.
Despite Honda’s recent struggles in the Chinese market, the CR-V used to be a top-selling SUV. Now, with the introduction of the WR-V, the brand is looking to regain its foothold. This new model is seen as a key player in Honda’s strategy to re-enter the small SUV segment, and with its competitive pricing, advanced features, and efficient performance, it has the potential to make a strong impact.
