Freescale's safety bladder system solution
The core element of the bladder system is a control device that combines a 16-bit or 32-bit MCU with a set of local acceleration sensors. Depending on the complexity of the system, additional satellite sensors provide auxiliary collision information through standardized sensor buses (such as Peripheral Sensor Interface 5 (PSI5) and Distributed System Interface (DSI)). Processed sensor input with dedicated multi-channel electric explosion driver circuit for exciting front, side and curtain airbags.
As an additional safety element, if the battery connection is lost in an accident, an efficient switch-mode power supply component keeps the system running for hundreds of milliseconds.
