Microsoft said that the "follow-up" service provided by iPlayer only allows users to watch it through this player a few days after the TV show is broadcast, while the MSN video player will allow users to watch the TV series of the entire episode.

Microsoft said that this service is free, but viewers will have to watch 30-second pre-roll, in-stream or post-roll ads, and it is only available to UK users for the time being. With this new service, users can watch programs such as the popular comedy "Peep Show", the youth idol drama "Skin" and the reality show "Swap Couples".

The new service was announced by Ashley Highfield, managing director of Microsoft ’s UK consumer and network business, who was a key player behind the development of the iPlayer player. iPlayer has achieved remarkable success in the UK market, with more than 40 million program playback requests processed each month.

But Hayfield insisted that Microsoft ’s MSN video player is better than iPlayer, “not all video players are equal”, “the average viewing time of our service is 25 minutes, much higher than other network services.”
