Renesas Electronics Triac BCR8LM-14LK
Triacs are used to control power switches in AC circuits. Due to the high gate trigger current (IGT), a dedicated circuit is required to amplify the output current of a conventional MCU. Reducing the gate trigger current is usually at the expense of other performance. The BCR8LM-14LK maintains the performance of existing TRIAC products while achieving low 12-mA (mA) or lower gate-trigger current, allowing it to be directly driven by the MCU. This eliminates the need for previously required amplifier circuits, making it possible to design more compact, lower-cost drive circuits with fewer components and lower power consumption.
In the field of home appliances (white goods), the demand for smaller, more power-efficient drive circuits for AC motors, solenoid valves, and heaters has gradually increased in recent years due to design considerations and energy efficiency considerations. . This has led to the need for a triac device that can be directly driven by an MCU without a dedicated driver circuit. However, the gate trigger current of a triac is usually 30 mA or more. Lowering the gate-trigger current to about 12 mA to accommodate the low current output of a typical microcontroller will cause commutation characteristics and worsening of the off-state critical voltage rise rate (dv/dt), while the off-state critical voltage rise rate prevents failure Very important. The BCR8LM-14LK uses a basic structure designed to reduce the gate-trigger current and uses a special device structure and process optimization design to achieve a gate trigger current of only 12 mA or less without affecting other important TRIAC characteristics. .
The BCR8LM-14LK device is the industry's first triac device with a voltage tolerance of 700 volts, maintaining ((dv/dt)c) a high commutation of 10 V/μs while achieving 12 mA. Or lower gate trigger current. Unlike traditional triac devices, the BCR8LM-14LK does not require a dedicated driver circuit. As a result, systems such as AC motors can use simpler drive circuits to help reduce component costs and power consumption.
In addition to the BCR8LM-14LK device with an on-state current rating of 8 amps, Renesas Electronics plans to introduce new products of 12 amps, 16 amps and 20 amps to further expand the product lineup of the series. In addition to the TO-220FL (UL certified) insulation package, Renesas will also provide a range of non-insulated packages to meet a wide range of customer needs.
Samples of the Renesas BCR8LM-14LK triac will be available in January 2012 at a price of $1.0. Renesas plans to start mass production in March 2012, and it is expected that the total output in March 2013 will reach 3 million pieces.
