The market size of the filament lamp will exceed 5.6 billion yuan? Mu Linsen, Hong Li, Guo Xing and other giants piled up to grab "fat meat"

With the global phase-out of traditional incandescent bulbs, LED filament lamps have emerged as a perfect and ideal replacement. In recent years, the production of these lamps has become more standardized, leading to a significant increase in output and market penetration. As consumer demand grows, the LED filament lamp industry is experiencing rapid expansion.

According to data from the High-tech Research Institute's LED Research Institute (GGII), the global LED filament lamp market reached 2.9 billion yuan in 2016. By 2017, it was projected to jump to 5.66 billion yuan, marking a staggering 95% growth. With increasing standardization and rising consumer awareness, the market is expected to maintain a compound annual growth rate of 47.7% between 2017 and 2020.

However, a key trend in the industry is that many domestic manufacturers have shifted their focus from the local market to international exports. The high profit margins and growing demand abroad have made the export sector a major priority for many companies.

As reported by the "2017 China LED Filament Lamp Export Monthly Monitoring Report" from GGII, China’s LED filament lamp exports surged in the first half of 2017, reaching approximately $22.47 million—up 330% compared to the previous year. The total volume of exported units also increased by 353%, highlighting the strong momentum of this segment.

The Market Demand is Strong, Companies Are Jumping In

Over the years, LED filament lamps have gone through various stages—from initial skepticism to widespread acceptance. Their success can be attributed to superior performance, energy efficiency, and versatility. Compared to traditional bulbs and energy-saving lamps, they offer better light quality, lower power consumption, and greater flexibility in design.

Hong Yannan, Chairman of Guangmingyuan, highlights that LED filament lamps are not only more energy-efficient but also environmentally friendly, aligning with the growing trend of green consumption. They are increasingly used in both decorative and main lighting applications, and experts believe they will continue to expand into new markets in the future.

More and more companies are entering the LED filament lamp space. Major players such as Debang Lighting, Hongxin Lighting, Shengpu Optoelectronics, Xingguangbao, Guangmingyuan, Lianshang Optoelectronics, Champion Lighting, Stellar Gaohong, and Yapuer have already established themselves in this niche. Among them, Xingguangbao stands out as a leader, focusing exclusively on filament lamps and continuously investing in R&D to improve product quality.

In March 2017, Xingguangbao participated in a major European lighting exhibition, successfully introducing its products to the international market. According to Zhu Xihe, General Manager of Xingguangbao, the company remains optimistic about the LED filament lamp market due to improved industry conditions and growing demand.

Major Players Are Expanding Their Footprint

It’s no secret that many domestic and international companies are now actively entering the LED filament lamp market. Giants like Philips and Osram are seeking partnerships with top Chinese OEMs, signaling a more competitive landscape ahead.

Several major LED manufacturers, including Mulinsen, Hongli Zhihui, and Guoxing Optoelectronics, have made significant moves in this area. For instance, Mulinsen announced plans to build a new LED filament lamp production facility in Yiwu, Zhejiang, with an annual capacity of 229.17 million units and a total investment of 128.686 million yuan.

Meanwhile, Hongli Zhihui has been aggressively promoting its filament products at both domestic and international exhibitions, building a solid reputation. Zhang Mingwu, Executive Vice President of Hongli Optoelectronics, emphasized the company’s commitment to quality, innovation, and professional talent development.

Guoxing Optoelectronics has also been proactive, securing a patent for its LED filament manufacturing method in October 2016. This move strengthens its intellectual property portfolio and reinforces its position as a technological leader in the industry.

As the market continues to grow rapidly, the LED filament lamp industry is moving toward a more competitive phase. Deng Kaisheng, General Manager of Ruidisheng, believes the industry has completed its initial recognition stage and is now entering a phase of diverse applications.

Flexible filaments, in particular, have gained popularity, and companies are showcasing their innovations at major trade shows. Looking ahead, the market is expected to see continued high growth, with demand increasing by over 50% annually for at least the next three years. However, competition will intensify, and weaker players may struggle to keep up.

For now, the LED filament lamp industry is booming, and those who adapt quickly and innovate effectively will likely lead the way in this fast-evolving market.
