1. In-vehicle network solution In-vehicle network (IVN) applications need to reduce costs and space as much as possible, while improving system stability and long-term reliability, so it is necessary to improve the integration of components. ON Semiconductor's IVN devices are numerous, including a variety of transceivers for local interconnect networks (LIN) and controller area networks (CAN). For example, ON Semiconductor's NCV7420 integrates a linear regulator and a LIN transceiver to save PCB space and provide separate power to the MCU, effectively suppressing interference from other modules to the MCU supply.

For example, ON Semiconductor's single-line LIN transceiver AMIS-30600 for IVN applications can be used as an interface between the protocol controller and the physical bus. It is especially suitable for driving LIN system buses in automotive and industrial applications, as well as standard ISO9141 systems. To reduce current consumption, the AMIS-30600 provides a standby mode. The transceiver uses I2T100 technology to integrate high-voltage analog circuits and digital functions on the same chip. It provides an ultra-secure solution to meet current IVN requirements through the infinite short-circuit protection function of fault conditions.

Recently, ON Semiconductor introduced a feature-rich native LIN transceiver NCV7321. It acts as an interface between the LIN protocol controller and the physical bus in low data rate IVN applications. The NCV7321 features excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and robust system-level electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance of up to 13 kV, eliminating the need for external ESD components and lower power consumption, making it ideal for demanding environments in automotive applications.

The NCV7321 uses ON Semiconductor's innovative I3T technology and intelligent power technology to enable high-voltage and sensitive digital technologies to coexist on the same chip. It complies with the LINv2.1 and J2602 specifications and has the same features as the AMIS-30600, but with different pinouts, providing customers with an alternative to existing LIN transceivers. The device is housed in a high-density, space-saving SOIC-8 package. Typical applications include a variety of body electronics and comfort applications such as remote door unlock receivers, window and sunroof lifts, alarms, electric mirrors and seats. Chair adjusters, as well as other functions such as electronic steering locks and tire monitoring electronic control units (ECUs).

The outstanding feature of the NCV7321 is that it maximizes the car's power-saving goals, and the current consumption in sleep mode is only 10 μA. Other key features include thermal shutdown, fuzzy short-circuit protection, and 45 V load dump protection. Figure 2 shows a typical circuit based on the NCV7321 LIN transceiver. It is worth mentioning that the device supports a voltage range of -45 V to 45 V and can withstand a nominal 5 kV ESD pulse, providing powerful protection.

The LIN bus transmits control device data at low rates (up to 20 kBaud), such as door locks, rearview mirrors, car seats and sunroofs, which are time critical. Each node of the LIN bus protocol uses only a single wire, minimizing wiring costs. Products supplied by ON Semiconductor comply with the US (SAE J2602-2) and Europe (LIN Physical Layer Specification Revision 2.1) standards. The NCV7321 offers a new choice for the world's leading automotive suppliers to integrate LIN into their cars. This LIN transceiver with lower power and system cost is attractive for a variety of existing and future automotive applications.

2. Automotive Lighting Solutions Today, consumers want automotive lighting systems to offer more and more features, which requires highly integrated solutions with excellent current regulation. ON Semiconductor offers standard and custom devices for automotive lighting applications.

ON Semiconductor's full-featured high-intensity discharge (HID) (or xenon lamp) ASICs help improve the performance of headlamp systems. Compared to conventional halogen lamps, HID improves color rendering, reduces power consumption, provides longer life and higher light output. In order to support its advanced features, high efficiency HID headlight ballasts and complex control circuits are required. ON Semiconductor's HID lamp control system is a hybrid analog/digital solution with an 8-bit microcontroller or dedicated state machine that integrates a DC-DC controller with comprehensive diagnostics (overvoltage, undervoltage, temperature sensors) , battery life counter), various communication interfaces (LIN, SPI), support 35 W (D1/D2/D3/D4) and 25 W (D5) lights. 3 is a block diagram of the application specific integrated circuit.

Its integrated linear current stabilization and controller NCV7680 for automotive lighting can be used to power the combined taillights on a single chip, providing better performance and higher energy efficiency with a smaller footprint than the market. The device contains eight linear programmable constant current sources for steady current and control of automotive solid state combined taillights (RCL), supporting up to 75 mA of LED light per channel.

The NCV7680 integrates a number of features to support two brightness levels, one for parking and the other for tail lighting. Optional Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control can also be used if desired. The system designer only needs to use an external resistor to set the output current (the overall set point). In addition, for designs that require high currents, an optional external ballast field effect transistor (FET) can be used for power distribution based on the high current required for the design. The delayed power limit reduces the drive current in the overvoltage condition. This is important for low current applications without external FETs.

Typical applications for this device include combined taillights, daytime running lights (DRL), fog lights, central high-position brake light (CHMSL) arrays, turn signals and other external modulation applications, liquid crystal display (LCD) backlighting, lighting modules, and more. Compared to discrete solutions, the device better matches the LED output and is easy to identify faults.

ON Semiconductor is also developing the NCV786xx power ballast and dual LED driver product platform for advanced LED headlamp systems. The product platform was developed to meet the system-level requirements of driving multiple strings of LEDs up to 60 V, maintaining color temperature with PWM dimming, and controlling average current, enabling designers to control high beam and near with a system-on-chip device. Lights, daytime running lights, turn indicators and fog lights. The platform is capable of communicating with an external microcontroller (MCU), changing operating parameters, detecting LED shorts, and providing advanced system diagnostics after power-up. The first product in the series, the NCV78663, will be launched in 2011.

In order to improve the control ability, it is necessary to measure and process the combustion chamber pressure in real time, which can reduce the fuel consumption of the gasoline engine by 30%.
