AR search object? Mother doesn’t have to worry about losing something

Life is full of small frustrations, and one of the most common is losing things. Whether it's your keys, wallet, or phone, these moments can be incredibly annoying, especially for people who are always on the go. Keeping track of everything is tough, but with the rise of AR technology, there might be a smarter way to manage everyday items.

Pixie Technologies has come up with an innovative solution using Bluetooth tracking chips combined with augmented reality (AR) called "item location." Based in Los Altos, California, Pixie offers devices known as Pixie Points, which connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Once attached to your belongings, the app helps you locate them instantly. With the release of Apple’s iOS 11 and its ARKit platform, Pixie is now able to offer even more immersive and accurate tracking experiences.

When you download the Pixie app, you'll see a 3D avatar that guides you through the process of finding your lost items. The app allows users to track objects in real time, with precision down to just 1 inch, making it easier than ever to locate something quickly. This level of accuracy makes the experience feel almost magical, turning a simple task into a fun and interactive one.

Pixie was first introduced earlier this year, but with the widespread adoption of iOS 11, the app has gained more attention and popularity. It's not just about finding things—it's about rethinking how we interact with our environment using smart technology.

Currently, Pixie uses a multi-step approach to help users locate their items using AR. But the next generation of Pixie promises an even smoother experience, allowing users to immerse themselves fully in a mixed reality (MR) environment while searching for lost items. This seamless integration could change the way we think about personal item tracking.

The battery life of each Pixie Point lasts about a year, and the device is compact—measuring just 47mm x 35mm x 3.2mm. It's also waterproof up to 3 feet deep, making it durable enough for daily use. Indoors, the range is between 30 to 50 feet, and outdoors, it can reach up to 150 feet. While the indoor range isn’t huge, it’s more than sufficient for most household needs.

Pixie Points are currently available on Amazon and the official website, starting at $29.99. The company is also working on bringing support to Android users soon, expanding the reach of this useful and futuristic tool.
