According to data from the China Semiconductor Industry Association, the sales revenue of the IC design industry in mainland China grew from 2.16 billion yuan in 2002 to 18.6 billion yuan in 2006, representing an average annual growth rate of 71.3%. By 2007, the top five companies in terms of sales were China Huada IC, Shenzhen HiSilicon, Shanghai Spreadtrum Communications, Datang Microelectronics, and Zhuhai Actions IC. These leading local players primarily focus on low-end segments such as smart cards, multimedia, and communication cards. However, during their first few years of operation, these companies experienced rapid business expansion and development.
