Hello everyone, I'm _Wie (follow me on Weibo @_Wie). Today, I'd like to share a little bit of my journey. In February this year, I traveled to Iceland, located in the Arctic Circle, and then went to Australia, which is near the South Pole. I've been visiting different cities and capturing amazing landscapes all year long. This video is my aerial photography collection from 2017. Thanks for watching!
I started flying drones last year after seeing some incredible shots online. One particular set of photos from Lujiazui made me really interested in drone photography, so I bought my first drone, the DJI Wizard 3A. Now, my main equipment includes the Mavic Pro, Canon 6D with a 24-70mm lens, and an OSMO Mobile. For this project, I used the Mavic Pro to shoot in 4K, ensuring high-quality footage. Although it can't match the image quality of the Phantom 4 or the Go series, its portability is unbeatable.

When I first started, I recommend exposing your shots carefully—try to capture one or two exposures. If the sky is overexposed, it's hard to fix later. For editing, I usually use FCPX for rough cuts, then sort the footage in DaVinci for color grading, separating the sky and ground. Finally, I go back to FCPX for the final edit.
During the first three days in Iceland, we joined a local tour group. We were in the south, but the weather was terrible—cloudy and rainy every day, with thick clouds and no sign of the aurora. On the last two days, we decided to drive ourselves, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. We headed to the airport graveyard in the south, but the clouds were still thick. At that point, I checked the aurora forecast and saw that the northern areas had clear skies. So we drove up to the Sinai Peninsula in the north.
Around 6 PM, I saw the first sunset in Iceland. The golden light shone on the snowy mountains next to Highway 1—it was absolutely breathtaking. By 10:30 PM, we arrived at the Sinai Peninsula. The road was dark with no lights, so we had to stop for safety. Looking at the map, there was a small town called Alna Stapi nearby. We decided to head there for a break. As soon as we reached the town entrance, I noticed a faint green light on the horizon. Since I had never seen the aurora before, I grabbed my camera, set up a tripod, adjusted the settings, and tried to capture it. It was the aurora! A long, glowing green ribbon danced across the sky. I was so excited—I felt this trip was totally worth it.
Life has many things that are different when you know them versus when you experience them. In Iceland, I finally saw the Northern Lights, witnessed the most beautiful sunset of my life, rode a husky sleigh, and felt like I was in the magical world of Narnia. There are so many moments that can't be captured by just a photo or a video. I hope everyone has a meaningful and unforgettable journey in 2017. Stay curious, keep exploring, and never stop dreaming.
