Japanese media: Toyota's fastest production of electric cars for China in 2019

On July 24, according to reports from Japan's "Asahi Shimbun," Toyota plans to ramp up the production of large-scale electric vehicles in China in 2019. This move suggests that the electric vehicle market is poised to experience rapid expansion in the near future. The report highlights that Toyota intends to design exclusive electric vehicles specifically for the Chinese market. Initially, the annual production volume is expected to be around a few thousand units. However, the final production capacity will be decided following careful evaluation of regulatory oversight and potential subsidies. Toyota meticulously considered China's regulatory framework and subsidy policies before deciding to mass-produce electric vehicles in the country. In an effort to combat air pollution, China aims to ensure that electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles make up at least one-fifth of total automobile sales by 2025. With the new energy vehicle quota policy set to take effect as early as 2018, Toyota aims to comply with these regulations while maintaining its competitive edge in the world’s largest automotive market. Toyota representatives stated that by 2025, their sales of fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids will constitute one-fifth of the company's total sales. While some sources suggest that the production model may be based on the C-HR, others indicate that Toyota could focus more on SUVs. Toyota spokesperson Ryo Sakai commented, "Over the next few years, we will introduce electric vehicles in China. However, we won't disclose any specific future product plans at this stage." The automotive industry is undergoing a swift transition toward electrification. Besides Toyota, Volvo has declared that all its future models will be either hybrid or fully electric starting 2019. Additionally, Volkswagen has announced plans to release a mainstream electric vehicle in 2020. Recently, Tesla's more affordable Model 3 has also hit the market. These developments point to a highly dynamic electric vehicle market in the coming years. With increasing global demand for cleaner transportation solutions, Toyota's entry into the Chinese EV market is just one of many signs indicating a revolution in the automotive industry. As governments worldwide push for greener initiatives, the race for sustainable innovation is heating up, making the next decade particularly exciting for both automakers and consumers alike.
