Abstract: Recently, several fire incidents in our city have been linked to the external wall insulation system. In fact, many of the insulation materials used in Chinese buildings are known for poor fire safety performance and significant fire risks. However, the CL construction system offers a promising solution by integrating structural support, thermal insulation, and fire protection into one. This system meets A-level fire safety standards through advanced fireproof design, aligning with modern building trends focused on enhanced fire prevention. It is well known that insulation materials play a crucial role in improving the fire resistance of external wall systems. These materials can be broadly categorized into two types: inorganic and organic. Inorganic insulation materials are non-flammable but tend to be less efficient in insulation and more expensive, making up only about 20% of the market. On the other hand, organic insulation materials provide excellent thermal performance at a lower cost, but they are highly flammable and dominate over 80% of the market. To address the fire risks associated with external wall insulation, it's essential to focus on developing new materials that are both fire-resistant and cost-effective. The CL building system achieves A-level fire protection by incorporating fireproof construction techniques. It is based on a shear wall structure, forming an assembled or integral cast-in-place space structure made from CL composite shear walls, regular shear walls, cast-in-place building covers, and edge members. The system features a sandwiched plate between two layers of reinforced concrete, with the inner layer being at least 100 mm thick and the outer layer 50 mm thick. This cavity-free design ensures that the insulation material is fully enclosed within the concrete, preventing any exposure to air and eliminating the risk of combustion. In September 2010, during testing at the National Fixed Firefighting System and Heat-Resistant Component Quality Supervision and Testing Center, the CL construction system was evaluated according to GB/T 9978.8-2008 "Building Component Fire Test Method," Part 8, which specifies requirements for non-load-bearing vertical components. The test results showed that the fire resistance limit of the CL composite wall exceeded 4 hours, confirming that the system meets A-level fire protection standards. This proves that the CL building system effectively combines load-bearing, insulation, and fire protection, offering a safe and reliable solution for modern construction.
